The Hitotsuyanagi School was founded by the first Tomoyoshi who was born in 1716 (the 1st year of Kyoho) and passed away in 1778 (the 7th year of Anei) at the age of 63. He had many disciples and raised the fame of Mitobori. From the second generation onwards, the lineage, Hitotsuyanagi Tomoyoshi continued to be used by six generations at the end of the Edo period. The style of each generation is typical of Mitobori. With meticulous use of the chisel, they left work used the special skill of Mito metalwork, such as carving dragon into openwork. This dragon-openwork tsuba has been certified as "Hitotsuyanagi" with a Tokubetsu Kicho Kodogu certificate in 1974. |
