| Ichige Genzaemon Norichika (Tokurin) was born in 1777 in Ibaraki District, Hitachi Province. In 1794 he entered the school of Kume Naganori, a retainer of the Mito domain, and later studied under Ozaki Suketaka of Settsu Province. In 1809, together with Naoe Suketomo, who was also a fellow student of Suketaka, he was appointed an official swordsmith of the Mito domain. In 1830 he traveled to Kyoto and, through the introduction of Iga no Kami Kinmichi, received the honorary title of Ōmi no Suke. He died in 1835 at the age of fifty-nine.Tokurin is regarded as the foremost Shinshintō swordsmith of Mito, and his works are rare today.This blade shows a beautifully refined jihada of tightly forged ko-itame. The hamon is a wide suguha with thick nie and a deep nioiguchi, displaying a powerful yet highly refined appearance.Passed the 2013 Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa. |
