Omi no Kami Sukenao[近江守助直] was born in Takagi, Omi Province in 1639. He later moved to Osaka and studied under Soboro Sukehiro (1st) and then Tsuda Echizen no Kami Sukehiro[津田越前守助廣] (2nd). In 1669, he received the title of Omi no Kami, and in 1675, he became the husband of Echizen no Kami Sukehiro's sister, took the surname Tsuda, and forged swords in his hometown of Takagi. When Sukehiro passed away in 1682, Sukenao became Sukehiro’s successor and led the clan, traveling between Takagi and Osaka. This wakizashi was made in 1680, when Sukenao was 41 years old and in his prime. This is an excellent wakizashi with a small Toran-midare hamon pattern with thick nie on the jigane with komokume. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in 2023. |
