Kawachi Daijo Yoshitane[河内大掾義稙] is an Echizen-seki[越前関] swordsmith. There are three generations of swordsmiths with the same name, and judging from the features of mei, this sword is believed to be from the second generation around the Tenwa period. Echizen Province is an important area connecting Kyoto, Hokuriku, Kanto, and Chubu regions, and was ruled by Sengoku warlords such as Asakura Yoshikage[朝倉義景], Azai Nagamasa[浅井長政], and Shibata Katsuie[柴田勝家], and many swordsmiths from Mino Province came to Echizen Province at that time. The Swords so called Echizen-seki has a shallow curvature, giving it a strong appearance suitable for practical use. This wakizashi has forged with a mix of itame-nagare and mokume with jinie. The hamon has a variety of gunome-midare pattern with kaku-gunome, togari-ba and cyouji as well as konie and nie-suji. An attractive Echizen-seki wakizashi. It has passed the Hozon Token shinsa in 2006. |
