Katakura Masaharu[片倉正晴] was a swordsmith from Yonezawa, Dewa Province, during the late Edo period (around Genji 1864-1865). The nakago/tang is in good condition and the natural rust color is excellent. The kitae/forging is koitame, the hamon is suguha base, but slightly irregular, with a gunome pattern and small ashi. The boshi is straight, with a small round kaeriyori turn pattern. It comes with a black lacquered scabbard wakizashi mounting. It has passed the Hozon shinsa in 2015. |
