This swordsmith, Tegarayama Masashige, was born in 1760 in Himeji, Harima Province. He lived at the base of Mountain Tegara, so he included Tegarayama on his Mei. In 1788, he worked for Matsudaira Tadanobu who was the third feudal lord of the Shirakawa Clan. He moved to Edo and forged. In 1803 he received the title of "Kai no Kami." He passed away in 1830 at the age of 70. The features of his work resembles the swordmsithing of Sukehiro who was famous for the Toran tempering style.
