| The Hozon paper notes it as a “mon-chirashi-sukashi tsuba” (Family crests-scattered tsuba). However, in Heianjo-zogan style tsuba, those featuring openwork patterns alongside vines inlay are called “bukan-sukashi tsuba”. The maker, Saburōdayū [三郎太夫], resided in Okayama, Bizen. He crafted tsuba in the Yoshiro [与四郎] style, featuring brass inlay floral designs on a round iron base, similar to this tsuba. One example bears an inscription dated August, Jōō 3 (1654). This tsuba is a Bukan-sukashi featuring six different types of openwork crests. The inlay has little loss and remains in sound condition. Passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2025. |
