Toda Hikozaemon [戸田彦左衛門], who specializes in making tsuba with small openwork on a round iron base, is one of the Yagyu [柳生] tsuba makers of Owari Province in the mid-Edo period (around 1680 Tenwa [天和]). This piece represents Toda Hikozaemon's work and was attributed to the "Toda [戸田]" at the shinsa in November 2024. There are some missing of the shakudo inlay on the eggplant stem, but this is to be expected given the age. The small openwork is meticulously crafted with a gold inner covering. |
