Other Info
This tsuba is yakite-kusarakashi[焼手腐らかし] surface and carved with usunikubori[薄肉彫]technique to dipicts plum blossoms on the front and water plants on the back. The faint traces of silver inlay give this tsuba sense of its age. The first Hoan[法安] was one of the Owari tsuba makers and was also said to be a disciple of Nobuie[信家]. He was employed by Daimyo, Asano Danjo[浅野弾正] and, as his domain was transferred, he moved from Owari[尾張] to Kai[甲斐] and Kii[紀伊], where he devoted himself to tsuba making. In his later years, he became a monk and took the name Hoan, passing away in 1613. The family name "Hoan" was passed down to future generations after the second generation. This tsuba has been attributed to Hoan and passed the Hozon shinsa in 2024.
