Other Info
Yoshiro tsuba developed from Heianjo-zogan, brass-inlaid tsuba, and are tsuba with arabesque patterns engraved into the iron base, and brass inlay applied using the flat inlay technique. As Yoshiro is a representative in this tradition, similar tsuba are collectively called as Yoshiro tsuba. Yoshiro's real name was Koike Yoshiro. He was a master metalworker around the Keicho period [1603-1615] who held the title of Izumi no Kami and was given the title of Tenkaichi[天下一], world’s best by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He moved from Kyoto to Kaga around the Kanei period [1624-1644], and is said to be one of the people who created the foundations of the so-called Kaga inlay. This tsuba is mumei, but has been attributed to the Yoshiyo and has passed the Hozon shinsa in 2010.
