The Umetada School is a renowned lineage in the history of metal craftsmen as well as swordsmithing. The lineage began with Umetada Myoju[埋忠明寿], a master craftsman from the Momoyama and early Edo periods in Kyoto, and continued through the late Edo period, with descendants moving to all over the country and prospering. Their work is characterized by the use of kawari-gane such as shakudo, yamagane/copper, and brass, and is thin and small in size. The highly skilled, realistic colored inlay creates an elegant look. This tsuba has been attributed to the Umetada school and passed the Hozon shinsa in August 2024. |
