Other Info
Judging from the mei of "Umetada Tachibana Shigeyoshi, resident of Nishijin, Joshu", this tsuba was believed to be made by Shichizaemon Shigeyoshi. He was active during mid Edo period, around the Kan'ei to Genroku era, inscribed with the surname ‘Tachibana’. He was fond of carving chrysanthemums using the Shoami-style nunome-zogan/damascening technique. This tsuba is a Floating Chrysanthemums design. The Floating Chrysanthemum crest is a combination of the chrysanthemum crest and flowing water, and is famous as the family crest of Kusunoki Masashige. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2024.
