Sadatsuna[定綱] was a swordsmith from Sendai, Mutsu Province, during the late Edo period (around Tenpo[天保] 1830-1844). He studied under Soryu-shi Tamahide[雙龍子玉英], a student of Naotane[直胤]. This sword is said to have been made by "living in Takanawa", so it is believed to have been made to order by a feudal lord or retainer, as the Date clan's Edo residence was also in Takanawa. It has a unique shape with gunome-midare hamon and resemble gunome-midare pattern of muneyaki[棟焼] blade. It is intriguing and well-made. It has passed the Hozon Token shinsa in 2024. |
