This swordsmith, Ohno Yoshimitsu[大野 義光], was born in 1948, he was a disciple of Yoshiwara Yoshindo[吉原 義人] and Yoshiwara Soji[吉原 荘二]. Yoshimitsu became independent in 1976 in Niigata Prefecture. He received many awards for his work and in 1987 he became a Mukansa[無鑑査]. He is one of the most skilled Contemporary swordsmiths in Japan. This tanto was made in 1980 by Ohno Yoshimitsu at the age of 32. It has a beautiful jigane with ko-itame grain, and a varied hamon with suguha, small ashi, and kaku-gunome pattern. It is a neat piece that will be a precursor to becoming a master swordsmith. |
