This swordsmith, Ichige Norichika/Tokurin, was born in 1777 in Kaie Village, Ibaraki District. He started to study forging skills from a Samurai of the Mito Clan, Hisagome Naganori in 1794. He later became a disciple of Ozaki Suketaka in Settsu Province. In 1809, he became an official worker of the Mito Clan with Naoe Suketomo, who was a famous disciple of Suketaka. In 1803 he received the title of "Omi no Suke." He passed away in 1835 at the age of 59. The features of his work resemble the work of his teacher, Suketaka like Sukehiro, who is famous for Toran-ba. Norichika had the reputation that he was the best swordsmith among the Mito Clan during the Shinshinto Era. His work is rare. This Tanto looks like Moroha, double-edged shape Tanto. A very high quality Tanto that was forged with he was 44, a mature age. The book "Kurogane no Isho" makes reference to this Tanto as a masterpiece of the Mito swords and fittings. It has passed the Tokebetsu Hozon Token Shinsa. |
