This pair of Menuki has the theme of Nihiki-shishi, a pair of sacred lions. The specific features of the Goto Tradition can be seen in the craftsmanship, such as the Suhama and Mokko-mon marks, Namekuri-tagane on the spine, and two vertical wrinkles on the legs. Judging from the thickness of the Ji and the overall techniques, it was probably crafted in the early Edo Period (by the 10th Master, Goto Teijo). It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu Shinsa in 2020. |
