The theme of this pair of Menuki is Wagtail on a Shell. The wagtail live around the water. They have white bellies with a black back. They are a bit larger than sparrows. They sing beautifully and often move their tails up and down. Considering the details, it was likely crafted no later than the Mid Edo Period. It is Mumei but attributed to the Goto Tradition. |
