The theme of these pair of Menuki is Keshi, Corn Poppy made in Tagane carving skills. Corn Poopy was brought to Japan from the Portuguese from India during the Muromachi Period. Corn Poppy is a one-year plant that blooms in the early summer. After blooming the flower becomes a fruit that is hairless and egg-shaped. Corn poppy was grown for appreciation. These Menuki are Mumei but attributed to the Horie Toradition. Passed the Hozon Shinsa in July 2019. |
