The theme of this Kozuka is Great Harvest, Dried Sardine and Dried Abalone. The dried sardine was spread fields as fertilizer to create a richer harvest. People eat dried sardine and abalone in the New Year's dish for a rich year. These are symbols of a good harvest and for prosperity. The craftsman, Mankyoku, was active in Edo during the Mid Edo Period. The materials used are Shakudo with Tortoiseshell inlay and gold plate. The Tortioseshell inlay is rare. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu Shinsa in 2014. |
