Other Info
The theme of this Kozuka is horses. The craftsman, Masamitsu, belonged to the Aizu Sho-ami Tradition. He held a reputation of being among the top rank of the tradition. He was the son of Hayashi Mitsunaga and seemed to learn from Ishiguro Masatsune. His work depicts themes realistically by use of Takabori-iroe, Suemon, and Sukidashi-bori techniques. The majority of his work are Tsuba but he also did Kozuka. It is rare. This Kozuka depicts two horses under a willow branch where the use of gold and silver inlay was skillfully done to create a vibrant image. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu Shinsa in 2024.
