This craftsman, Hirata Narimasa, was the Ninth Master of the Hirata Tradition. He worked for the Bakufu and in his later years, he became a monk. He lived in Edo and passed away in 1776. The Hirata Tradition is famous for using Shippo Technique, that was only passed on to the Master's one son. They were official workers of the Tokugawa Bakufu. They were just as well known as the Goto and the Yoshioka Traditions. This Tradition flourished from the start of the Edo Era until the Meiji Era. This Kozuka has the theme of Rabbits and Horsetail Reeds and the Takabori Suemon-zogan technique and not the Shippo technique, which is unique. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu in January 2020. |
