"Carp Climbing up a Waterfall" is an analogy for success in life, based on the legend that a carp that can swim up the rapids of Dragon gate, located in the upstream of the Yellow River in China, became a dragon. This kogai depicts a carp swimming in a rapids. The artisan, Unno Yoshimori [海野美盛] second generation, based on the signature and pattern. The second generation was the son of Unno Moritoshi [海野盛寿], studied under Unno Shomin [海野勝珉], and became a professor at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. He became an Imperial Household Artist. This kogai shows the power of the chisel and gives a sense of the spirit of the Meiji metalworking. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu shinsa in November 2024. |
