| This katana, by Shindo Minamoto Yoshikuni [新藤源義国], was known as Shindo Kojiro Yoshihiro from the 2nd year of Keio (1866). Resided in Morioka, Mutsu Province, the Seventh-generation of Yoshikuni lineage. The first Yoshikuni was the second son of Chikuzen Nobukuni Yoshimasa [筑前信国吉政]. He became an official swordsmith of the Nanbu clan during the Enpō era (1670s) and moved to Morioka. The lineage continued for eight generations until the Meiji period. This katana is attracctive with a beautiful, ko-itame forging and suguha straight hamon. It comes with an uchigatana koshrae with black lacquered saya. It passed the Hozon Token shinsa in 2004. |
