Kiyomitsu[清光], along with Sukesada[祐定], is a representative swordsmith who was active during late Muromachi period in Bizen province. This sword has no zokumyo/specific name, but judging from the mei/inscription Genki Sannenki[元亀三年] and its work of quality, suggests that it is Magoemon-no-jo Kiyomitsu[孫右衛門尉清光]. Magoemon-no-jo Kiyomitsu is the son of Gorozaemon-no-jo Kiyomitsu[五郎左衛門尉清光], who is said to be the most skilled of the Kiyomitsu lineage, and with a similar work, Magoemon-no-jo Kiyomitsu is regarded as a master swordsmith second only to his father. This sword has a strong form from the Sengoku period, with a wide and thick blade, deep curvature. Well-forged iron of beautiful fine ko-itame with jinie. The hamon shows a hiro-suguha with lots of ashi and yo. A typical work of Kiyomitsu that is 453 years old, and an excellent katana made by Magoemon-no-jo Kiyomitsu. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in 2018. |
