The Fujishima[藤島] tradition was related to the Tomoshige[友重] lineage that originated in Fujishima, Echizen Province, and later flourished in Kaga Province. Most of their remaining works were made during the Muromachi period, after Oei[応永] era (1394). The style is a moderate width, thickness and curvature of blade, and is said to be a combination of Bizen tradition and Mino tradition. This katana has a beautiful shape with a moderate width, thickness and curvature. The jigane has lots of jinie on the itame grain, and the hamon pattern is a Bizen-style of koshibiraki-gunome-midare and a Mino style of togari-ba. The features of this blade are apparently Fujishima. It has been attributed to the Fujishima tradition and has passed the Hozon token shinsa in 2020. |
