This katana has been inscribed that it was forged in August 1576,the 4th year of Tensho, the late Muromachi Period by Sukesada from Osafune, Bizen Province. The blade shows a distinctive midare hamon that was popular during the Sengoku period. The omote side has midare hamon with notare base with gunome-midare as well as tobiyaki-utsuri, while the back side has a highly-tempered kaku-gunome-midare. A different omote/front and ura/back hamon, making it a sight to behold. The blade is relatibely in a good condition despite its age of being 448 years old. It has passed the Hozon Token shinsa in 2024. |
