This swordsmith, Nankai Tarou Masataka, was born in 1918 in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture. His actual name is Morioka Toshio and was a nephew of Morioka Masayoshi, who was the grandson of Nankai Taro Tomotaka, a popular high ranked swordsmith. So this Swordsmith is a descendant of Nankai Taro Tomotaka. He was a Military commissioned swordsmith and was the disciple of Kasama Shigetsugu and Takahashi Sadatsugu. He received many awards for swordsmithing including the Excellence Award (Yushusho) 4 times, Effort Award (Doryokusho) 3 times. This katana was forged by Masataka in his 54 years old. This katana has a strong robust feeling. It comes with a uchigatana style koshirae with a Golden color polished ray skin koshi-kizami saya. |
