This swordsmith, Sawahara Shigetane, who was a samurai of the Shirakawa Clan in Mutsu Province. He studied under the famous swordsmith, Taikei Naotane. The features of his work resembles the work of his teacher. He held the reputation of being the best disciple of his teacher, Naotane.
