This swordsmith, Tsunemitsu, belonged to the Ishido Tradition. He was the elder brother of Heki Mitsuhira. Tsunemitsu was born in 1626 in Omi Province and moved to Yamashiro and later to Edo. His work can be found between the years of 1648 to 1703. He was a Yoki Waza-mono ranked swordsmith. The Ishido Tradition was famous for making Bizen-den swords that had Choji-midare Hamon. This Katana was forged in the style of Sue-bizen; late Muromachi style. It gives a robust impression. It is currently ranked at Hozon Token but could likely exceed that level. It has passed Tokubetsu Hozon Token Shinsa in June 2024. |
