| This wakizashi was made by Bitchu no Kami Tachibana Yasuhiro. Born in Kishu, Yasuhiro was the second son of Tosa no Shogen Tameyasu. Together with his elder brother, Mutsu no Kami Tameyasu, he moved to Osaka and contributed to the prosperity of the Osaka Ishido school. He was active around the Kanbun era (1661–1673). After receiving the honorary title of Bitchu no Kami, he signed his works "Bitchu no Kami Tachibana Yasuhiro" and also engraved the chrysanthemum crest (kikumon). This wakizashi is a fine example of a Kanbun-period Shinto blade, with a well-proportioned sugata and an ubu nakago in exceptionally good condition. The jigane consists of finely forged, tightly packed ko-itame-hada. Particularly noteworthy is the distinct utsuri rising from the tops of the hamon, with soft, diffuse outlines that gradually fade into the jigane. This is an excellent wakizashi that clearly displays the characteristic workmanship of the Ishido school. In 2018, this wakizashi passed the NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa. |
