| Sukesada was the most renowned group of swordsmiths working in Bizen Osafune during the late Muromachi and Sengoku periods. The school flourished under outstanding master smiths such as Yosozaemon-no-jo, Genbei-no-jo, and Hikobei-no-jo Sukesada. This blade was made in Eisho 12 (1515), during the Eisho era (1504–1521), when the Sukesada smiths were at the height of their reputation. The jigane is itame mixed with mokume, with faint utsuri on the ji. The hamon is a high suguha, with ko-ashi and some gunome. An Eisho-era Sukesada blade from the Sengoku period, now more than 500 years old. It is accompanied by a black ishimeji lacquered saya wakizashi koshirae. The blade passed Hozon Token Shinsa in 2008. |
