The first Yamatonokami Yoshimichi's signature was relatively fine letter, while the second was bold, making this sword the second generation's. The lineage is "Kyoto Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi I [丹波守吉道 京初代](c. 1615-1624) - Osaka Tanba no Kami I [大阪丹波守吉道 初代] (second son of the first Kyoto Yoshimichi, c. 1652-1655) - Yamatonokami I [大和守吉道 初代](second son of Osaka Tanba no Kami I, younger brother of the second Yoshimichi, c. 1661-1673) - Yamatonokami II [大和守吉道 二代](eldest son of the first Yamatonokami, c. 1673-1681)." The second Yamatonokami Yoshimichi forged his sword in Himeji, Banshu, so it is called "Himeji Yamato." His style is similar to the first, with a choji-midare with sakagakari hamon. This sword has been shortened by 2.2 sun (6.6 cm) for improved operability, and has a firm appearance. The jigane is well-forged with dense ko-mokume and fine ji-nie. The blade has a high-quality, gorgeous kobushi-choji hamon. This is an excellent work that clearly shows the characteristics of Yamatonokami Yoshimichi. It comes with a koshirae of a black lacquer ishimeji-nuri saya. It has passed the Hozon Token shinsa in 2020. |
