Other Info
This relatively small, vertical round iron tsuba features four stylized wild geese arranged in the four directions in ji-sukashi. The geese are boldly rendered in openwork so as to connect the seppa-dai with the rim, and are evenly arranged with ample open space, creating a simple yet powerful composition. The seppa-dai is left relatively thick, while the iron is gradually thinned toward the inner edge of the rim, creating a distinctive variation in the thickness of the plate. The rim is rounded. Judging from the deep, dark tone of the iron and the style of workmanship, this tsuba is probably an Akasaka work dating from around the mid to late Edo period.
