| A tsuba boldly depicting a single forked daikon radish extending across both the front and back, rendered in sukibori and kebori carving. Silver inlay representing drops of dew is scattered over the leaves, adding a decorative accent to the design. The forked daikon radish was traditionally offered to Daikoku, one of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune, and is regarded as an auspicious motif symbolizing abundant harvests and prosperity in business. The artist Shigemitsu signed his work “Shigemitsu, resident of Edo.” He is said to have been a metalworker active in Edo during the late Edo period, although details of his life and career remain unclear. With its vigorous depiction of the forked daikon radish, this tsuba has a simple yet distinctive charm. |
