| A Three Cranes openwork tsuba, depicting three stylized cranes arranged with a sense of movement and ingeniously interconnected with one another. Akawo Yoshitsugu, the tsuba maker, was a son of Jinzaemon, the first-generation head of the Akawo Yoshitsugu family in Echizen. He moved to Edo and founded the Edo Akawo school, which continued for five generations until the end of the Edo period, with each generation using the name Yoshitsugu. Made of high-quality shakudo, this tsuba features a carefully conceived composition of dynamically intertwined cranes, displaying the distinctive and refined sense of design characteristic of Akawo Yoshitsugu. |
