| This tsuba depicts seaweed, waves, and assorted shells. The seaweed is rendered in sukisage kebori, overlaid with various shells inlaid in different irogane metals, while the surging waves and their splashing spray are expressed with dot inlay and katakiri-bori. The rim is finished with a shakudo fukurin, which provides an elegant contrast to the warm tone of the copper ground. Although the artist represented by the kao (monogram) has not been identified, the workmanship suggests that it was made by a metalworker of the Shonai school. |
