| The Umetada [埋忠] school was a renowned lineage spanning from the Momoyama period to the late Edo period, with Myoju [明寿] of the Momoyama era hailed as a master craftsman. Its descendants migrated nationwide, flourishing as the Umetada school. Umetada tsuba feature an elegant and gentle style characteristic of Kyoto. They feature minimal openwork, instead employing flat inlay with gold and silver to create decorative pictorial patterns. This tsuba features a low, chrysanthemum-shaped seppadai carved with suki-bori technique. The kozuka-hitsu inlaid with gold is gourd-shaped. Walnuts and dew are depicted in inlaid and gilding on the surface. This is a tsuba bearing the signature of Umetada, well representing his style. Passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2024. |
