Other Info
Higo metalwork developed under the patronage of the feudal lord, the Hosokawa clan, and was made to be used on Higo sword fittings, the unique Higo tradition of sword fittings. Well-forged for practical use, with a fine iron texture, it is worthy of samurai tools that have been loved by samurai for their practical aspects, without so-called frills. Its martial elegance gives it value and rich flavor as samurai art, and it is highly praised for its refined seriousness without pretense. This tsuba, an openwork tsuba with a nesting crane design, is a same design as Hayashi Matashichi's speciality. It has been attributed to the Higo Tradition and passed the Hozon Shinsa in 2019.
