This intricately carved tsuba depicts the Dragon and Waves. As this craftsman used the word of "Hajo[覇城]" to refer to Choshu, and may have been a disciple of Tomokata[知賢], who was an official worker of the Mōri clan and the fifth generation of the Okamoto linage. The unusual name of kanji [蜘舟] would be "Tomochika[知周]" which may have been inscribed using homophone. This Choshu tsuba is impressive with its powerful expression of the Dragon and Waves. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu examination in 2024. |
