The theme of this Tsuba is Ariwara Narihira (Rusumoyo). Ariwara Narihira was said to be the model Hikaru Genji, who was a main character of the Tale of Genji. This Tsuba depicts a crown, blinds, and hollyhocks. On the backside, it depicts a horse whip and scroll. The is no Ariwara but the items suggest the theme. In total you can associate these items with Ariwara Narihira. It is Mumei but considering the craftsmanship, it was likely crafted by the Aizu-shoami Tradition. |
