Other Info
This crafsman, Goto Mitsuyoshi, was the Soke of the Goto Tradition, fifteenth generation. He was born in 1780 in Edo as the son of Mitsumori, the Soke of the Goto tradition, fourteenth generation. Mitsuyoshi took over as Soke in 1804 and named himself as Shirobei. He passed away in 1843 at the age of 64. Shinjo was his Shigo which was the name given to him after his death. The design of this Tsuba has boys playing dressed in ancient Chinese clothes. It has a mark proving it was crafted by Mitsuyoshi (Mioboe Tagane). A Shakudo Tsuba is rare for a Goto Soke Craftsman. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Shinsa in May 2022.
