This Tsuba is made from well-forged iron using the Sukisage and Kebori techniques depicting Chrysanthemum and Vines. The work is Mumei, but has been attributed to the Umetada Tradition. Hosokawa Family is a Higo, Kumamoto Clan and the Japanese paper (washi) that has the title of the Tsuba written on it indicated that the Hosokawa Family once owned this Tsuba. The brown cloth (Beaver cloth) and washi was used for wrapping the Tsuba in storage. The important documentation that is included with this Tsuba makes is an interesting historical piece.
