Other Info
This blade is in naginata zukuri with an iori-mune. The mihaba, kasane, and sakizori are all of standard proportions, resulting in a well-balanced and elegant shape. The jihada is a tightly forged itame with a slightly prominent grain, covered with ji-nie and showing distinct chikei. The hamon is suguha, displaying hotsure, kuichigai, ko-ashi, and areas of nie-kuzure. The Jumyō school (also read Toshinaga) originated in Yamato Province before moving to Mino Province, where it flourished from the Muromachi period through the end of the Edo period. Because the name Jumyō, meaning "long life," is considered highly auspicious, and because the school's blades have long been admired for their excellent cutting ability, they have been highly prized for centuries. The smith Kawachi no Kami Fujiwara Jumyō (also read Toshinaga) was active during the early Edo period (around the Kanbun era). He moved from Ōgaki in Mino Province to Oka in Bungo Province, where he became an official swordsmith of the Oka Domain and was granted a stipend of jūnin-buchi (an allowance equivalent to the support of ten persons). It passed NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in December 2025.
