| This pair of menuki depicting long-tailed tortoises (minogame) has been attributed to Ko-Kinkō. The minogame has long been revered in Japan as a symbol of longevity and, together with the crane, is a traditional auspicious motif. The two tortoises are carved in bold relief with remarkable three-dimensionality. Their heads are turned toward one another, evoking the harmony of a married couple and enhancing the design's auspicious associations with longevity, good fortune, and domestic happiness. Accompanied by an NBTHK Hozon Tōsōgu certificate issued in 2011. |
