| The theme of this pair of Menuki is Puppy. The craftsman, Kumagai Yoshiyuki, was famous for being a Edo-higo craftsman. He was from Sendai and moved to Edo where he became an official worker the Hosokawa Family of the Higo Clan. He created work with a gold and silver Nunome-zogan technique in addition to the basic Higo work. This Menuki has Kibata Mei, with his characteristic signature. Actually this is not Edo-higo work, but Menuki crafted by him is very rare. It is crafted from high quality Shakudo. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu in 2023. |
