The theme of this pair of Menuki is Shishi, Sacred Lion. This is a different type of Shishi from the Goto Tradition. It appears to be of the style from the Yokoya Tradition. There isn't much specific information of the craftsman, Morita Munesuke. However, judging by the style and shape of the Shishi, he was likely related to the Yokoya Tradition. It resembles the work of Yokoya Somin. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu in 2023. |
