| Issei Watanabe studied the techniques of the Shoami school under Hayashi Masamitsu, a leading master representing Aizu. He later moved to Edo, where he trained under Funada Ikkin, a disciple of Goto Ichijo. At the age of 38, he became independent and returned to Aizu-Wakamatsu to establish his own workshop.This work depicts a rustic seaside cottage rendered with outstanding skill. The refined tone of oborogin (a soft, misty silver alloy), together with the delicately carved low-relief waves and the fine workmanship on the reverse, demonstrate the artist’s high level of craftsmanship.It received Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu certification in 2025. |
