| The Two Noble Plants of Winter in Japan are plum and bamboo that endure the severe cold. This kozuka depicts a sparrow preening its feathers on a plum tree and bamboo on a vertical type kozuka. It features a copper unusual ishime-ji surface with colored metals (gold, silver, copper and shakudo) expressed through diverse techniques (high relief, single-sided carving, inlay and colored gilding). The back side features meticulous workmanship with nekokaki, cat-scratch file finish and bears the inscription “Yoshiaki [吉明].” Yoshiaki was a disciple of Ishiguro Masaaki [石黒政明]. Resided in Kanda, Edo. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2024. |
