Kirin is a sacred animal in legend, also known as a Chinese unicorn. It has a dragon's face, a cow's tail and a horse's hoof. It is considered one of the four sacred spirits along with the dragon, phoenix and spiritual turtle. This kozuka depicts a kirin (Chinese unicorn) with a gold inlay, made of shakudo and wrapped gold plate with file on the back. It is mumei, but has been attributed to the Kyo-kinko tradition, and passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in February 2025. On August 17th, the box was improved to a custom-made paulownia wood box. |
