| Sukesada was the most renowned group of swordsmiths working in Bizen Osafune during the late Muromachi period and the Sengoku era. The school flourished under outstanding master smiths such as Yosozaemon-no-jo, Genbe-no-jo, and Hikobe-no-jo. This blade was made in Daiei 2 (1522), almost the same period as the Sukesada smiths who produced swords dated to the Eisho era (1504–1521), commonly known as Eisho Sukesada. It has an elegant and refined appearance, with a shinogi-zukuri, iori-mune form and graceful koshi-zori. The jigane is itame mixed with mokume, with a somewhat pronounced grain, faint utsuri, and ji-nie. The hamon is a gently undulating suguha with small ashi and yo. Exactly 500 years have passed since this sword was forged, yet it remains both graceful and remarkably sound, retaining the elegant character and robust condition for which Sukesada blades are admired. This blade passed the NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token Shinsa in 2015. |
